According to a recent article, self publishing is growing exponentially, especially when compared with traditional publishing.

For instance, in 2006, Simon & Schuster put out approximately 1800 new titles, while
House put out 9000 unique titles.

Compare these numbers with the following self publishing statistics:

• One self publishing company put out 80,000 new titles in 2007
  
• Flickr recently celebrated its 2 billionth uploaded photo
  
• According to Technorati, 120,000 new blogs are created every day
  
• The photo book market went through the roof
  

If you are considering self-publishing, now is the time. Remember that the industry encompasses more than just books, self publishing refers to any content you create and distribute yourself whether it's a book, an ebook, a web site, a blog, music, a cookbook or a photo book.
