Self Publish Book: What You Need to Do to Get Your Book in Print

Self Publish Book - so you want to enter the field of writing and publishing your own books? Congratulations! You've taken the first step toward artistic expression and financial freedom.

By acting as your own publisher, you'll be free from the tyranny of others—publishers sending you rejection notices because your work is not suitable for them, editors slashing your lovingly and painstakingly crafted sentences and paragraphs or re-visioning your entire book.

Although you'll have the freedom of expression and the ability to write what you're passionate about (instead of sticking to a certain niche), there's no such thing as freedom without responsibility. In this article, I'll tell you what services you must provide or outsource, since you won't have the staff of a big publishing house behind you.

Self Publish Book: The Many Hats of the Self Publisher

If you want to self publish a book, you will have to learn how to do things like editing, typesetting, book cover design, pdf file creation or hire someone who can do them for you. If you've read this far and realize that you really want to focus on your writing, you can still self publish your book and hire a few people to do the tasks that you do not want to learn how to do.

After much searching, I have finally found a company which allows novice authors with no self publishing experience under their belts to easily create a book. You will need someone to design your cover though (because a unique, attractive cover is a must), but you can do that for a very reasonable price by hiring the graphic designer I recommend.

The benefits of going with this self publish book company are many. First, to create your book, you simply upload your manuscript (as a Word document) and your cover photo to their web site. Second, you do not have to order thousands of dollars of inventory for your first print run. In fact, you can order a handful of copies if you'd like. Third, you retain the copyright and make an excellent percentage of the profits. Finally, you get to list your book on the biggest online book retailer which translates into more book sales and profits for you.

As someone who self published my first book back in 2004, I have to tell you that it doesn't get much better than this. In fact, I think so highly of this company that I created a step-by-step tutorial to show you how to set up your account with their self publish book service. Click on the link and set it up now.

I highly recommend taking this route. After I self published my book, I was burned out. And I was lucky. A local librarian put me in touch with a woman who had self published a number of books. I contacted her and she kindly took me under her wing and taught me how to use the layout software to create my first book.

If you want to learn the book publishing business, then roll up your shirt sleeves and get ready for some creative, challenging, yet deeply satisfying work. While you might enjoy some tasks more than others, the digital tools available today make the process a whole lot easier than when I got started.

If you are serious about publishing as a business, the next step in the process is to file the paperwork to the start your own self publishing company. You will need to do this whether you decide to do everything yourself or use the services of the book printer that I recommend above.
