A good home based business idea can take you from feeling like a slave to having more control over how you spend your time. There's nothing better than working from home. I know--I've been a work at home mom for the past eight years.
As the owner of four web sites—three information or "content sites" and one ecommerce site—I know a thing or two about doing business on the web. I also know how essential written communication is to a successful online business. I've found the best tools the hard way, but I'm willing to share them with you because I think people deserve the chance to do what's in their hearts and work for themselves.
There are many ways to make a living online as a writer. In this article I will detail three of the methods that I have used successfully myself. For the past decade, I have earned my income solely from working online at home.
I've done this in many ways. Here are just a few:
1. Creating theme based content sites on a variety of topics from a site like this on self publishing to sites on parenting and home remedies. What's important for you to realize is that I built these sites on my own with no technical knowledge. In fact, I've created these web businesses just by typing text into boxes and uploading images from my computer. How do I make money? Through advertising, product recommendations and book sales.
The big reason for my success? I've used a system that taught me from start to finish (using an easy-to-follow Video Action Guide) how to build a web business that attracts people who are interested in reading what I write about. Ultimately, this means that I make money from writing articles and posting them to my own site. Watch this short video on building a home based business idea of your own and see how easy it is to use this system.
2. Once I started realizing that I had a following of readers who liked my articles, I knew it was time to write a book. In fact this idea was actually spurred by one of my readers who said, "If you ever write a book, I'll be the first in line to buy it." This was all the incentive I needed. I wrote my first self-published book almost ten years ago and it still sells today. In fact, Keepers of the Children: Native American Wisdom and Parenting is used on tribes and nations across the U.S. and Canada in their parenting programs. It has won four awards, including a very prestigious award from Martha Stewart's company Omnivision that was given in the ballroom of her New York headquarters.
Back then, I had to learn a complicated program in order to layout my book. Fortunately, I had a friend who had self published ten books of her own who was willing to help me. Fortunately for you, it's a lot easier to get started with self publishing today. This leads to my second home based business idea: self publish your own book using CreateSpace.
CreateSpace is Amazon's print-on-demand publishing system that allows you to create books easily by uploading a Word document and the cover for your book to their site. Best of all, your book will be listed on the biggest book seller on the web. For a step by step tutorial on how to get started, click on CreateSpace publishing.
Once you've self published your book, then you can sell it to your web site visitors. As your site grows and you discover what your readers really want to know about, you can write more books. Do you see how this allows you to create your own little niche publishing business and allows you to be in charge of your own time and work from home?
3. My third idea includes building a web site and writing articles but recommending other people's books and products and earning commissions on the sales. This is called affiliate marketing. People around the world consistently earn healthy incomes using this method alone. Depending upon the product, you can earn anywhere from $5 - $500 per sale. The sky is really the limit. If you think you can write short articles, but don't ever see yourself writing a book, this is a good way to go. Who knows? Once you get started, you may choose to write a book, like I did. (Actually, I've written way more than just one.)
It all starts with a web site though. If you are a writer, you simply must have a web site. If you are someone who wants to make money from home and develop yourself as a writer, this is also a great way to go. To find out more click on building a web site.
