Ebook Publishing Writing: Tools & Strategies

Ebook publishing writing is a fun business. If you enjoy sharing information about subjects that you get excited about, this is a great way to get paid for what you know. If you're a newbie, you'll need to know how to get started and which tools to use. As an author who has written and published a number of ebooks and physical books (one of which has won four awards), I have to admit that I was a little overwhelmed at first, but after learning the ropes, I'm going to share much of what I've learned with you.

If you don't consider yourself a writer or if you'd love to be one but have not been published yet, don't worry. There are plenty of authors on the web who have sold thousands and tens of thousands of ebooks and have never been published elsewhere. As an author and self publisher in the modern world, you don't need your work credentialized by a track record of traditional publishing successes in order to succeed in the online publishing world.

An Ebook Publishing Writing Success Tips

  • Pick a topic to write about. (A good strategy is to choose a topic you're interested in (and don't mind researching) or one you have some expertise in. Make sure there is demand for your topic. Here's the resource I used to learn how to research and write an ebook.
  • Write a synopsis of your ebook. What valuable information are you going to give your readers? Decide how you're going to organize it. Make an outline that divides the subject matter into logical sections and leads the reader down a path that progresses from broad to specific knowledge.
  • Write from your outline in a word processor like Word, Mariner Write or any popular program.

  • As you write your book, build an email list, so once your book is written, you'll have a built-in market for your book. This is essential to success in the ebook publishing writing process. When I was writing my ebook, I built a list of 13,000 subscribers. This resource showed me how to build a list of supportive subscribers and how to properly format the emails I sent to them. To drive home how important it is to do this properly, understand that the market you build for your book will also probably buy your next book ... and your next.
  • Edit your work. Read your book aloud to check for errors. Print it out, read it and mark it up. Sometimes it is easier to spot errors on the printed page than on a monitor. Once you've edited it once, send a couple of copies to your friends and ask them to point out places in the book where the information does not flow or seems unclear. Solicit testimonials from experts in the field on the topic of your ebook. Nothing sells better than the seal of approval from a well-known expert.
  • Convert your text document file into a pdf file, which is the format used for ebooks. You must use a conversion program if you want your work to be recognized as an ebook.
  • Build a web site from which to sell your ebook. There are plenty of tools that allow you to build a web site without having to know how to write code or develop extensive technical knowledge. This is the software I used to build my site and three others. I've been using this software for 8 years. In that time, it's become one of the biggest providers for site building and hosting because the company behind it is reputable and creates cutting-edge tools that allows newbies to build site without technical knowledge.
  • Write the sales copy for your web site. These are the words that will compel web visitors to buy your book.
  • Sign up for Clickbank which is a web site that will list your ebook for sale, so that thousands of affiliates around the world can promote your book from their web sites, which means you'll have a sales force working for you 24/7. Since affiliates have access to markets that you cannot reach, this is a great way to explode your sales.
  • Promote your book. Promotion is the most important step of the process. You may have written an incredibly informative book, but if you don't promote it, how will readers learn about it? Since most authors are not natural promoters, you can learn about the process by reading my tips on book promotion which apply to digital as well as physical books.
