Become an Ebook Millionaire - A Tale of Two Ebook AuthorsAs an ebook author and the author of an award-winning traditional book (which I also self-published), I know a few people in the business. Without naming names, let me tell you a little story. Let's call the story, "A Tale of Two Ebook Authors." Of course, one of these authors will become an ebook millionaire. The first author is well-intentioned. She pours her heart and soul into her ebook and puts it up for sale on an ebook store. The proprietors caution her that since an ebook is not a physical book and she doesn't have printing or inventory costs, the list price must be lower than that of a physical book. She prices her ebook at $3.95 which leaves little or no profit margin. She gets a domain name (which she names after herself—an unknown author) and puts her book up for sale on both sites. The second author has written a book that reveals highly coveted information. He has spent time figuring out something that others could have figured out if they would have only spend the time. The information in his book has the potential to make web site owners a lot of money. Realizing the value of his work to others, he prices his book at $97. He creates a domain name, but it's not named after himself, it's named after the subject matter of his book. The first author sells less than 100 copies of her book. The second author sells tens of thousands of copies of his book. Not only that, he makes a ton of money. He revises the book, adding real-life stories of how his book increased the income of various types of web sites. He charges for this upgrade and people readily pull out their wallets. Two years later, a New York publisher approaches him with a book deal. They tell him that he must sell his book at a competitive price which means the list price is going to be around $20. Who cares? He's already made a ton of money in the online world. Not only that, he's made a name for himself. This man has become an ebook millionaire. What is the difference between the two? How did one author become an ebook millionaire and the other fade into virtual non-existence? The difference is that one author had a system for success. He followed it and it worked. He created the right kind of web site from which to sell his product. He priced it at a cost the market would bear. This man did his research and it served him well. He has gone on to write many other successful ebooks. In addition, he has made a name for himself and is considered an expert in his field. Would you like to become an ebook millionaire? If so, take my advice. Build a web site that attracts targeted traffic—web surfers who are already looking for what you have to offer. These are the people who will buy your book and once they've read it, recommend it to others. This is the platform from which you will sell your ebook. Build this web site as you are writing your ebook. Second, before you write one word, do your research. This system will teach you how to research your niche and determine before you write a single word if your venture is likely to be profitable. It will teach you everything you need to know about creating a profitable niche. To become an ebook millionaire, follow the steps of those who have been there and done that, otherwise, like the first author in our scenario, you may wind up just spinning your wheels.
